Bridging the data gap: using remote sensing and open-access data for assessing sustainable groundwater use in Kumasi, Ghana

چکیده

Abstract Groundwater use has significantly increased in the rapidly urbanising city of Kumasi, Ghana. But there is a lack understanding whether groundwater system can sustain growing demand future amidst climate change and rapid urbanisation. Using remote sensing datasets water balance approach, this study estimated recharge assessed how urbanisation affected its sustainability. Sustainability investigated by comparing multi-annual withdrawals to long-term average annual replenishment. Results show that while decreased 80% from 1986 2020, mainly due substantial (63%) loss permeable land, consumption seen six-fold increase. 2020 exceeded 2.2 Mm3, suggesting current trends are unsustainable for availability. Under ‘business-as-usual’ scenario, four-fold increase predicted 2050 land cover changes may reduce 10 55%, respectively. Practical measures such as promoting artificial replenishment approaches, adopting low-impact development instituting management must be implemented Metropolis. This should informed further studies ascertain exact condition groundwater.

Assessing the Trend of Spatio-temporal Drought Changes Using Remote Sensing Time Series Data in Central Khuzestan Province

Introduction: As a dreadful natural disaster caused by a severe reduction in precipitation rate, drought brings about, compared with other natural disasters, far-reaching spatial and temporal consequences, incurring severe damages. On the other hand, in late the 20th century, drought monitoring approaches underwent a paradigm shift, and advances in remote sensing and earth observation technolog...

Drought Analysis of Alvand Boundary River Using Remote Sensing Data

Extended abstract 1- Introduction       The study of the behavior of rivers in the arid and dry areas is one of the most important tasks in the country. Because the area has increased the effects of drought due to the sensitivity of the area and rainfall shortage, it causes changes in the flow and sediment regime, water resources, agriculture, and so on. Since plants react more precisely to t...

Investigation of periodic changes of the Oman Sea coastline using remote sensing data and spatial analysis

Extended abstract   1- Introduction Coastal environments are one of the most sensitive environmental systems under the influence of dominant hydrodynamic processes. Coastal changes and evolution are occurring very fast. Coastal areas are now gradually becoming known as severe natural and man-made disturbances, including sea levels rising, coastal erosion and sedimentation, and over-exploitat...
